#TZCards277 - Ocean Park Penny Arcade Card Featuring Gabby Hayes, Johnny Mack Brown, Ken Maynard, and Bob Steele
#TZCards277 - Ocean Park Penny Arcade Card Featuring Gabby Hayes, Johnny Mack Brown, Ken Maynard, and Bob Steele
Click the picture to see a larger more detailed image. This is a scarce Ocean Park Penny Arcade 4 in 1 card featuring Gabby Hayes, Ken Maynard, Johnny Mack Brown, and Bob Steele. All have printed signatures with sayings like Best Wishes. Excellent unused condition. Ocean Park was built in Santa Monica, CA in 1958 and closed in 1967, so these are from that time period. It was a very large park that was built to compete with Disneyland. However, city planners, in an effort to renew the area, demolished buildings and closed streets all around the park so people couldn't find there way in. Even though it was a huge park, it was forced to close it's doors and the contents were auctioned off in 1968. These cards are marked "Pacific Ocean Park Arcade 1¢" on the front and have a postcard back.

#BEADS0181 - Navettes - Japanese Millefiori Flower Cabochons - Pick Your Color
#BEADS0181 - Navettes - Japanese Millefiori Flower Cabochons - Pick Your Color
Vintage 14mm Glass Japanese Millefiori Navette Flower Cabochons with faceted backs. We found these in our big find on the West Coast. They were in with the rest of the stuff that they brought in to sell to the hippies in the late 1960s. The colors are very beautiful. Flower Power indeed. The word "Millefiori" is Italian and means 1000 flowers. To make these flower patterns on the beads is labor intensive and requires hand cutting a hot cane of glass that has been patterned. They are all handmade and so the sizes will vary a little and they may not all be perfectly round. Found unused still in their original packages. Pick your color and size from the pull down menu.

They were sold as hippie items from a bead store near the Haight Ashbury area. In 1967, the hippie phenomena dominated the area and the demand for beads was huge. The owner of this store put out the call that he wanted all types of beads that were either colorful, large, earthenware, or had mystical significance. Some of the items that he brought into the store were much older, and we will note them in the listings. The hardcore hippies wanted glass or ceramic or earthenware, so that is what most of these items are. The lucite stuff was for the fake hippies. The demand started slacking as the hippie phenomena died down and by the mid 1970s, they started selling gold chains and disco related items instead. The hippie items were taken from the front shelves, and stored in the back. The newspaper they were wrapped in was dated 1977, so that's when they put them back there. The most striking thing in the store is an old display of huge African Trade Bead necklaces from the 1800s. They were even selling those sort of beads to the hippies. One of those necklaces will run you about 2 grand now. That place is a real time warp. You could still smell incense around some of the boxes and I kept hearing Jimi Hendrix and Jefferson Airplane in my head. Just amazing.

#CH326-36 - Gilbert Roland in "Robin Hood of Monterey" Cisco Kid Movie Poster Broadside
#CH326-36 - Gilbert Roland in "Robin Hood of Monterey" Cisco Kid Movie Poster Broadside
Click the picture to see a larger more detailed image. Vintage 12 3/4" tall paper movie poster/broadside from the 1947 GIlbert Roland movie Robin Hood of Monterey". Says "Cisco Kid The Mexican Menace Back with New Thrills... New Lawlessness". The Cisco Kid movies were one of the biggest draws back in the day. Back in the day, when a new movie was going to play at the local theatre, there would be a guy who would run around town tacking these things on bulletin boards, telephone poles, fence posts, or anyplace else where they might be seen. Because most were outdoors, few have survived. Some will have small edge tears or roughness, but this is true of all paper movie broadsides, and they can easily be trimmed for framing. Although, a few small imperfections kind of adds to the look with these. Colors vary. They came from the storage area of an old theatre up in Northeast Ohio.

#MISCELLANEOUS232 Early Unused Coney Island Ticket for the World in Wax Musee Attraction
#MISCELLANEOUS232 Early Unused Coney Island Ticket for the World in Wax Musee Attraction
Vintage 2 1/8" wide ticket for the Coney Island (New York) World in Wax Musee. These are the oldest version I have seen. The attraction opened in the 1920s and tickets were 20¢ in the 1940s, so they likely go back to at least the 1930s. These came from a fellow that had a store that sold souvenirs along the Coney Island boardwalk. He was a collector and ran into this kind of stuff because he was right there on the boardwalk. They are in excellent unused condition. This is a rare item.

#SIGN269 - Huge Cinci Cream Beer Sign
#SIGN269 - Huge Cinci Cream Beer Sign
Click the picture to see a larger more detailed image. Vintage huge 21 4/4" tall  paper sign. These are not to be confused with the beer tents. These are huge signs that were meant to hang on a wall. They picture "The Handsome Waiter" and says "Who Wants the Handsome Waiter" "Original since 1882 Cinci Cream Canadian Lager Beer". Around 1880, Cincinnati was the beer capital of the world. More beer was sold from Cincinnati breweries than anywhere in the world, and it was widely claimed to be the best in the world. In 1882, a company in Canada started making what they called Cincinnati Cream beer to capitalize on the phenomena. They supposedly copied the beer recipe from a Cincinnati company whose name they would not divulge. Apparently it worked as they were in business for a long long time. Around the 1970s, the beer was imported back in the U.S. because of it's popularity in Canada. These are from that time period. Excellent unused condition from the distributor warehouse in Baltimore, MD. They will be shipped rolled. No foreign orders on this one.
