#BEADS0212 - Very Old Strand of Czech Glass Floor Sweeping Beads - 4 1/2 feet long - only 2¢ a bead!!!!!
#BEADS0212 - Very Old Strand of Czech Glass Floor Sweeping Beads - 4 1/2 feet long - only 2¢ a bead!!!!!
Vintage 4 1/2 foot long strand of glass Czech floor sweeping beads. These came from a factory in Czechoslovakia where they swept the beads up every day from about 1905 till the 1950s. They threw them in a bin every day, and finally strung them up in the 1950s. There are variations from strand to strand, and some are crude, but they are all in excellent condition. Most of the beads are around 6mm long and colorful, but some are larger and a few are smaller. The strands themselves are cloth and meant to be temporary. There are around 240 beads on a strand which is barely over 2¢ each!

#PL402.5 - Large Ronald Reagan Rally Paddle from the 1984 Election
#PL402.5 - Large Ronald Reagan Rally Paddle from the 1984 Election
Click the picture to see a larger more detailed image (both sides are pictured). Here's a scarce one. Vintage 17 3/4" tall Ronald Reagan rally Sign/Paddle (they held these in the air and waved them around at rallys). They are made of thick styrofoam attached to a wooden paddle. They feature a diecut figure of Reagan with a patch that says "84" on his shirt. The bottom is marked "Copyright 1983 The Force, Inc." The term "the force" was taken from Ronald Reagan's Star Wars program which claimed we could shoot lasers from space satellites that would take down anything on the ground. Even though it never actually happened, it is one of his most famous achievements, as Russia ran scared. It was a good bit of acting from his earlier career as an actor that paid off. These are very uncommon, and will be a big hit with Reagan collectors. They are in unused condition. The backs show some minor aging. The fronts are great other than a few very minor marks. NO FOREIGN ORDERS ON THIS ONE.

#BEADS0349 - Group of 4 Red Rose Design 18mm Japanese Ceramic Big Hole Beads
#BEADS0349 - Group of 4 Red Rose Design 18mm Japanese Ceramic Big Hole Beads
Click the picture to see larger more detailed image (two views pictured). You will get 4 for $1 (that's 25¢ each). Vintage red rose design (on two sides) 18mm long big hole ceramic beads. These were in boxes marked "Made in Japan" and are from the late 1960s.

Hippies were stringing big hole beads on rope back in the day and these had the earthy look that was popular. They are in unused condition, and are very uncommon. They were sold as hippie beads in the late 60s from a bead store near the Haight Ashbury area. In 1967, the hippie phenomena dominated the area and the demand for beads was huge. The owner of this store put out the call that he wanted all types of beads that were either colorful, large, earthenware, or had mystical significance. The hardcore hippies wanted glass or ceramic or earthenware, so that is what most of these items are. The demand started slacking as the hippie phenomena died down and by the mid 1970s, they started selling gold chains and disco related items instead. The hippie items were taken from the front shelves, and stored in the back. The newspaper they were wrapped in was dated 1977, so that's when they put them back there. The most striking thing in the store was an old display of huge African Trade Bead necklaces from the 1800s. They were even selling those sort of beads to the hippies. One of those necklaces will run you about 2 grand now. That place is a real time warp. You could still smell incense around some of the boxes and I kept hearing Jimi Hendrix and Jefferson Airplane in my head. Just amazing.

She is also known for the murder suicide which ended her life in 1930. Marked "The Gray Litho Co. NY." Illustrated by Maud Stumm with her signature mark. These have quite a history.
