This catalog is dedicated to the memory of Zane Shaffer. He was a pioneer in this field who recently left us. A lot of you have likely crossed paths with him. He was, arguably, the largest dealer in our type of merchandise on the East Coast. His family sold us a large lot of his inventory with the hope that his items will find good homes with people who appreciate them. You will see a lot of them over the next year or so, and we will mark them as such. Here is a note from his family "Whether he was gettin' his road warrior on traveling to antique markets in places like Shupp's Grove or buying/selling online, he enjoyed every minute of it. He held a very special place in his heart for the people, the places, and 'the old things'. It's really good to know that his collection will reach all the folks that had the same passion about them. We truly hope you enjoy them as much as he did."

##MUSICBP2003 - Grateful Dead Car Window Tour Sticker/Decal - Bear in VW bus
Click the picture to see a larger more detailed image. Vintage 4" wide Grateful Dead sticker/decal. These are high quality art decals that were made for car windows. I peeled the cover off for the picture. They are in mint condition and can still be used. This one is from around the mid to late 1980s. It features a Grateful Dead bear driving a VW bus, and says "who are the DEAD and why are they following me".

These Grateful Dead stickers/decals are old tour merchandise. I found them wrapped in plastic in boxes in master cases. They came from a distributor who sold them to tour vendors. The condition is pristine and they still will work as a car decal or window/mirror sticker. We found them packed away in storage boxes dated 1992 (many are older than that) and 1995 (year Jerry Garcia died). They are high quality artist renderings of Grateful Dead themes. Back in the day, the Dead did not monitor copyrights and that sort of thing, and in fact, at one point encouraged artists to do designs. The LA times explained it well “The Grateful Dead was famously lax in enforcing it’s intellectual property rights and trademarks, allowing fans to create their own designs using the band’s expansive iconography”. Since there was no serious monitoring or much concern back then, a lot of up and coming artists got involved in designing them. This is how some of them got their starts. Some of the sticker artists who designed these stickers went on to produce official licensed works for the Grateful Dead and other famous groups. These stickers include some by now famous designers including David Opie, and others. These 1995 and older stickers are very hard to find anymore.

Vintage very large 2 3/4" wide smiley face bead/decoration. The front is a heavy plastic and the reverse is tin. There are 5 different colors. The more you buy, the more colors you will get. The boxes they were in were marked Japan. They have two holes in the back for stringing, and a notch between them. You pulled the string or wire down in the notch to keep them from moving. There was probably a type of pin you could use with them too. I remember seeing these decorating belts back in the day. They had multiple uses. They are old unsold stock from a bead store on the east coast that closed 30 some years ago. The tin on the reverse has a little tin patina which adds to their charm. The Smiley face was invented in 1964 by cartoonist Harvey Ball. Buttons and items like this because very popular during the hippie days and peaked in 1971 when over 50 million Smiley Face buttons were sold!!!!

#BEADS0359 - Group of 10 Large White Triangle Beads - Venetian Trade Beads
You will get 10 for $1.50. That's 15¢ each. These are bright white and fairly large. The sizes vary as in the picture from about 9mm to 15mm long. These were sold back in the day as trade beads. There are not a lot of these and this is an amazing price on them, so don't wait long.

Here's the incredible story. In 1898, the Societa Veneziana Conterie Consortium was formed. It was a group of 16 bead makers who put their beads in one place so they could be sold by one sales force. Some of the stock was old when it came there in 1898 (these are those)! In recent times, the consortium was dissolved and the remaining 400,000 plus pounds of beads were sold to an American Indian Trading post. We were able to get ahold of a good quantity of the oldest types (the wrapping confirms the are pre WWI).
