This catalog is dedicated to the memory of Zane Shaffer. He was a pioneer in this field who recently left us. A lot of you have likely crossed paths with him. He was, arguably, the largest dealer in our type of merchandise on the East Coast. His family sold us a large lot of his inventory with the hope that his items will find good homes with people who appreciate them. You will see a lot of them over the next year or so, and we will mark them as such. Here is a note from his family "Whether he was gettin' his road warrior on traveling to antique markets in places like Shupp's Grove or buying/selling online, he enjoyed every minute of it. He held a very special place in his heart for the people, the places, and 'the old things'. It's really good to know that his collection will reach all the folks that had the same passion about them. We truly hope you enjoy them as much as he did."

#SIGN109 - Rare Early U.C.T. (Order of United Commercial Travelers) Very Large Silk

Vintage 5 1/2" tall Order of United Commercial Travelers silk. The Order of United Commerical Travelers was formed in January of 1888 at the Neil House in Columbus, Ohio to provide a society for traveling salesmen, or commercial travelers. These are very early and came out of a factory that made silks and flags many years ago. Based on the master box, I'd say they are from the early 1900s. As far as we can tell, these are the only examples known.  They say "U.C.T." and have the society logo on them. They are made from the same cloth as cigarette silks, but are larger. They may have been hung on wooden sticks as flags. There was not a big bunch of these found and we have all of them, so we would suggest ordering early as they likely won't be around long. They are not bright white anymore, but are in excellent unused condition. Nice pieces.

#ZL199 - Deep Rock Sparking Mineral Water - Extremely Old and Rare
Click the picture to see a larger image. You guys are always asking for the rare and unusual. Here's a really nice one. Vintage 4 1/4" wide Soda bottle label that went on a Deep Rock Sparkling Mineral Water bottle. This company was only in business from from 1865 to 1875, and so they are from that time period. The plant was in Oswego, NY, and the bottles go for $200 - $500 depending on condition. I don't think anyone has ever seen these labels before. They were in the estate of a Wisconsin dealer. My understanding is that these labels were found years ago in the building that housed J. A. Lomax in Oswego. Lomax was the bottler and sole agent for Deep Rock. Lomax themselves went out of business in 1885. These labels are in excellent unused condition for their age.
