#BEADS0351 - Clear Colored Large Rare American Glass Beads/Curtain Pulls from the Civil War Era - Rarest One
#BEADS0351 - Clear Colored Large Rare American Glass Beads/Curtain Pulls from the Civil War Era - Rarest One
Early large heavy wound glass American hand made beads. These are clear with an iron colored pontil mark running up the center. This was the smallest quantity one of the bunch and there aren't very many. This is the last type. The sizes are very variable ranging from about an inch to over and inch and a quarter. They are glass that was worked on an iron rod. These have the iron residue up the entire opening which was caused by rods used only from about 1840 to 1870. These handmade glass objects were sold as beads and as curtain pulls and probably other things too. They were sold by the peck. These are one of the very earliest forms of American lampwork bead. They light up brilliantly with a lot of light behind them. Pick the color you want from the pull down menu. The crazy store of how we found these is below. We are still amazed by it.

We were out looking for hippie beads at the store in California we've been talking about. There were quite a few of these packed away in the back with the hippie stuff. When we asked about them, they knew that grandpa had bought them from a store that exclusively sold vintage American glass when they went out of business. He bought them because of the large holes and colors, thinking the hippies would like them!!!!!! We have spent countless hours researching these things, and it turns out they are real deal mid 1800s blown glass. This is one of the best find we have ever had. I can pretty much guarantee you that the only other place you are going to see one of these is in a museum.

Ocean Park was built in Santa Monica, CA in 1958 and closed in 1967. It was a very large park that was built to compete with Disneyland. However, city planners, in an effort to renew the area, demolished buildings and closed streets all around the park so people couldn't find there way in. Even though it was a huge park, it was forced to close it's doors and the contents were auctioned off in 1968. These cards are marked "Pacific Ocean Park Arcade 1¢" on the front and have a postcard back.
