#BEADS0152 - Large Black Round Incised Handmade (Lampwork) Bead
#BEADS0152 - Large Black Round Incised Handmade (Lampwork) Bead
Price is 25¢/bead. Vintage very large jet black handmade bead. They have a spiral incised on the surface. The size varies. Average size is nearly inch and a quarter in diameter, plus they are over a half inch thick. Because they were handmade (also known as lampwork beads), no two are alike. These are very uncommon. They were in a crate with made in Japan glass, so that would be our best guess. They are from the 1960s, or more likely, earlier. They are a bit dirty. Just rinse them off in water and they are in new unused condition.

They are in unused condition, and striking. Like most of the others in this find, so far as we can tell, there are no other examples of these to be found anywhere online, or anywhere else period. They were sold as hippie beads in the late 60s from a bead store near the Haight Ashbury area.

#CH326-04 - Rare 1951 "Fury of the Congo" Johnny Weissmuller as Jungle Jim Movie Broadside/Poster
#CH326-04 - Rare 1951 "Fury of the Congo" Johnny Weissmuller as Jungle Jim Movie Broadside/Poster
Vintage 13" tall paper movie poster/broadside from the 1951 Johnny Weissmuller movie, "Fury of the Congo". Johnny Weissmuller was very famous as an olympian and then in his movie role as Tarzan. In this movie he played "Jungle Jim". It was part of a series of Jungle Jim movies he did that were very popular. It says that the "Amazon Beauties Lead Johnny Into HIs Strangest Battles". It's a rare poster. Please click the picture to see a more detailed image. Back in the day, when a new movie was going to play at the local theatre, there would be a guy who would run around town tacking these things on bulletin boards, telephone poles, fence posts, or anyplace else where they might be seen. Because most were outdoors, few have survived. Some will have small edge tears or roughness, but this is true of all paper movie broadsides, and they can easily be trimmed for framing. Although, a few small imperfections kind of adds to the look with these. Colors vary. We got them from the estate of famous dealer and friend Bob Secrist. He found them in the storage area of an old theatre up in Northeast Ohio.
